The iPhone 15 series will finally embrace genuine fast charging

Apple, lagging significantly behind its competitors in fast charging, aims to rectify this with the iPhone 15 series.

Recent leaks have shown images of a USB-C port on the anticipated iPhone 15 series, suggesting the potential for Thunderbolt support. Apple's next line-up is expected to integrate a USB-C port in alignment with EU regulations. Historically, Apple has been slower than its Android counterparts in embracing rapid charging for its devices. However, this might change soon.

There are speculations that the iPhone 15 series will embrace charging speeds reaching up to 35W. Such an enhancement would be a notable improvement, especially considering the current non-Pro models offer a 20W charging speed, while the Pro models peak at 27W. This increased speed could curtail the charging duration, given that it currently requires about two hours to fully charge the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Although the likelihood of all four iPhone 15 models featuring a 35W charging speed is yet to be confirmed, considering Apple's past differentiation strategies between Pro and non-Pro models, it's plausible that only the Pro variants will receive this upgrade. Moreover, there's talk about the iPhone 15 series incorporating a stacked battery technology. If this combines with the rumored Thunderbolt support, we might see even faster charging capabilities. Apple's 35W dual USB-C charger and the 30W USB-C charger, both launched previously, already support iPhones at maximum speeds.

Earlier this year, respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared insights suggesting that the iPhone 15 would support rapid charging through USB-C, but only when used with certified cables.
