The Google Pixel 8 Pro got scratched, punctured, and broken!
The most robust flagship from Google, Pixel 8 Pro, faced numerous challenging conditions during its durability test.
Earlier this month, Google introduced the Pixel 8 series to the smartphone market, with a notable promise of providing 7 years of software updates and availability of spare parts, underscoring their commitment to long-term device support. Among the flagship models, the Pixel 8 Pro was subjected to a rigorous durability test by the renowned YouTuber, JerryRigEverything, revealing a blend of robust features and potential areas of improvement.
Notably, the Google Pixel 8 Pro showcases a brilliant display that offers impressively high brightness levels. The screen, shielded by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, endures scratches starting at level 6, with deeper grooves becoming prominent at level 7. While it doesn’t parallel the resistance offered by Apple’s Ceramic Shield present in the iPhone 15 series, its protective features are nevertheless impressive. The back panel, however, emerges from the scratch test utterly unscathed.

The Pixel 8 Pro, while boasting a sleek and slim profile, is constructed with a frame of recycled aluminum, which, as testing showed, is susceptible to scratches on all sides during a scrape test. Moreover, the rear camera visor and the new thermometer sensor located below the LED flash unit were not spared either, succumbing to visible damage during the test. In addition, it was observed that the power and volume rocker buttons could be removed with a certain level of effort.
The burn test presented an interesting result for the Pixel 8 Pro as it withstood an open flame for a duration of 17 seconds. However, it eventually yielded to a permanent burn mark due to the dead pixel's inability to restore. While this isn’t typically an everyday concern for users, it is an intriguing discovery from the experiment. Moreover, despite enduring numerous scratches, the optical fingerprint scanner persevered, continuing to function flawlessly.
In a particularly challenging bend test, the Pixel 8 Pro managed to maintain its structural integrity impressively. When Zack applied considerable force, attempting to bend it from both sides multiple times, the smartphone held firm, showcasing commendable overall structural rigidity.
