The first interruption in iPhone 15 production has already occurred!
While Apple strives to launch the iPhone 15 series by September, it continues to tackle various issues on the other hand.
Apple is gearing up to unveil the iPhone 15 series next month, continuing its tradition of annual releases. Despite the anticipation built by leaks and rumors, recent reports suggest some concerning developments for this next-gen flagship. Apple, which has witnessed a steady decline in the U.S. market in recent quarters, is expected to introduce substantial improvements with the iPhone 15, the most significant since the iPhone 11's release.
Apple's acknowledgment of the smartphone market slowdown and its subsequent decline over the last few quarters is now manifesting in its production decisions. Noted analyst Jeff Pu, privy to investor communications from Apple, reports a reduction in the production of the iPhone 15. According to Pu, Apple intends to manufacture 77 million iPhone 15 units, a considerable decrease from the previously projected 83-85 million units to be shipped by the year's end. This revised number also falls short compared to the existing iPhone 14 series.

Supply chain challenges and diminished demand are the key reasons behind these lowered estimates. Apple faces production challenges specifically with the iPhone 15 series. Pu points out that these production issues stem from complications with Sony’s camera sensors, a novel titanium frame designated for the Pro models, and a refreshed display featuring slimmer bezels.
A crucial factor contributing to this potential decreased demand is the projected price point of the new devices. Given the extensive upgrades, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are speculated to be priced significantly higher than their predecessors, potentially by an increase of up to $200. Such a price escalation may deter potential buyers, thereby affecting the demand for the iPhone 15 series.
In addition to these insights, Pu also shared that the forthcoming iPhone 16 Pro models are slated to come with a 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera and WiFi-7 compatibility. Separately, Apple has initiated the production of the iPhone 15 series in India, marking a departure from its usual practice. This is the first instance where Apple has begun manufacturing devices locally in India ahead of a launch. In the past, new iPhone models were produced in India only a few weeks post their global launch.
