The camera features of the iPhone 16 Pro Max are starting to become clear
The iPhone 15 series isn't even unveiled yet, but whispers of the technical information of the next series have already started spreading.
Apple seems to be preparing for a significant advancement in its photographic capabilities. A recent leak suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro Max, set to release in 2024, may outshine Android's top-tier smartphones with its revolutionary rear camera sensor.
The source of this information is the well-known tipster, Digital Chat Station, who made this claim on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging site. According to him, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is likely to be equipped with an Ultra or Super Telephoto lens, boasting an impressive high focal length of 300mm. If this leak is accurate, it will give the iPhone 16 Pro Max an advantage over Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra's telephoto lens, which has a focal length of 230mm.

As a reference, Samsung's flagship device offers up to 10x optical zoom. Given this, it's expected that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will align with the capabilities of future high-end Samsung phones. The inclusion of this advanced lens could signify a substantial upgrade for the 2024 iPhones, especially when compared to the speculated features of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is rumored to offer a 6x optical zoom with its telephoto sensor. These assumptions correlate with previous reports predicting taller displays and an innovative camera system for the iPhone 16 Pro series.
The leaker also suggests that the camera will be built around a Sony 1/1.14-inch sensor. Apple is said to be evaluating this potential camera enhancement's feasibility in terms of supply chain implications. The high focal length could result in a heavier sensor due to its 7 piece lens system, though it would allow for better magnification and superior image quality over greater distances.
