Tecno, a company gaining recognition for its innovative yet budget-friendly smartphones, has recently unveiled its latest addition, the Phantom V Flip, during the "Flip in Style" launch event in Singapore. Priced at approximately $600, this flip-style phone aims to deliver an exceptional user experience without breaking the bank.

The Phantom V Flip boasts a classic flip phone design, although it doesn't embrace the cutting-edge hardware concepts seen in some of its competitors. Instead of a large, functional external screen like those found on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 or the Moto Razr+, it features a modest 1.32-inch circular OLED screen integrated into its camera module, offering a 60Hz refresh rate at 466x466 resolution.

While this unique design sets it apart, the screen's utility is somewhat limited. It resembles a smartwatch, allowing you to swipe through various widgets, including quick access to the selfie camera, but running full-sized apps on it is out of the question. The V Fold can display notifications with predefined response options, along with quick settings toggles, music controls, and more, though it doesn't match the capabilities of more advanced devices. Tecno has introduced its own version of memojis and digital pets that can be displayed on this screen.

Inside the device, you'll find a foldable 6.9-inch 1080x2640 screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. It features an elongated 22:9 aspect ratio, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 5, and supports Flex Mode positions, allowing you to use it in partially folded configurations. This feature enables stable photography without a tripod and offers convenient controls for Google Meet and playback functions on the lower half of the screen. While the crease between the two sections of the screen is noticeable, it's likely something you'll grow accustomed to with regular use, similar to other foldable phones. However, the industry should aspire to create virtually crease-free devices, like the Oppo N2 Flip.

In terms of internal hardware, the Phantom V Flip is equipped with a Mediatek Dimensity 8050 CPU, 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The device's 4,000mAh battery, considering its form factor, is quite substantial and supports up to 45W charging with an included charger. The camera setup comprises a 64MP primary camera and a 13MP ultra-wide camera, though it lacks optical image stabilization. Additionally, there's a 32MP selfie camera for capturing your moments.
