Originally introduced for tablets and laptops, the company is now extending this technology to smartphones with the launch of two new models.

TCL 40 NxtPaper

This smartphone features a 6.78-inch LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. It offers a special e-reader mode that enables grayscale UI for easier reading on the eyes. The phone can be used as a notepad with an optional case that includes a T-Pen stylus. The NxtPaper tech includes layers that replicate the feel of writing with a real pen on paper.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Helio G88 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM (expandable up to 8GB virtual RAM) and 256GB of storage. A microSD slot is available for additional storage. The phone features a triple camera setup, including a 50MP main module, a 5MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro module. The front camera is a 32MP sensor. It also boasts stereo speakers with DTS 3D Boom Sound, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and supports 33W fast charging for its 5,010mAh battery.

Like the 4G model, it includes a triple camera setup with a 50MP main module, 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is an 8MP sensor.

Both models run on Android 13 with the NxtPaper UI and come with a 5,000mAh battery. The TCL 40 NxtPaper is priced at €200, while the 5G model, the TCL 40 NxtPaper 5G, is priced at €250. Availability is set for the coming weeks in Europe, with plans to expand to other regions later in the year.
