Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 officially unveiled, faster and more efficient!
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has been officially unveiled. The new chipset offers ray tracing, Wi-Fi 7 and more features. Here are all the details.
Qualcomm, one of the leading smartphone chipset manufacturers, has officially announced the new generation Snapdragon series flagship processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for high-end smartphones today. As its name suggests, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the successor of last year's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and it is more efficient, especially when it comes to AI-related tasks. Let's check all features of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 launched, here are all the features
The Kryo CPU on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 includes an ARM Cortex-X3-based main core running at 3.2GHz, as well as four performance cores at 2.8GHz and three efficiency cores at 2.0GHz. Compared to last year's chipset, these are 200MHz to 300MHz faster. The company states the CPU is 35% faster and 40% more power efficient than the previous generation.
Adreno GPU equipped in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 offers %25 higher performance and %45 power efficiency. The processor also offers hardware accelerated ray tracing support to the Snapdragon platform for the first time. Moreover, it offers new memory technologies LPDDR5X RAM up to 4,200MHz and new UFS 4.0 storage.
Qualcomm also stated that it has made improvements to the Hexagon processor for up to 4.35x faster Artificial Intelligence (AI) performance, and claims the chip can handle more complex tasks like translating one language into multiple languages in real time. It is also the world's first chip to support Wi-Fi 7 technology.
The chipset that produced in 4nm process, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, is also equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X70 modem, which was announced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. It has its own AI processor to boost 5G performance and comes with dual active 5G SIM support. This means users can use two different 5G networks at the same time.
Samsung's 200-megapixel HP3 and Sony's Digital Overlap HDR sensors have also been optimized for use with the Snapdragon ISP. Moreover, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has a triple 18-bit ISP, like its predecessor, that can handle up to three sensors, up to 200-megapixel for a single camera.
