Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 introduced: Who do you think will use it first?
Qualcomm, one of the two biggest names in the mobile processor world, officially introduced its new chipset, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2.
As the successor to last year's Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, Qualcomm recently unveiled the much-anticipated Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset. This next-generation chip boasts an array of innovative features and enhancements, promising an upgrade in performance and efficiency. The inaugural debut of a smartphone powered by this new chipset is set to occur in China in the forthcoming days.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, identified by the part number SM4450, is a cutting-edge piece of technology that is fabricated using Samsung’s 4nm processor. The chipset features two performance cores (Cortex-A78), clocking at a frequency of 2.0GHz, alongside six efficiency cores (Cortex-A55), operating at the same 2.0GHz frequency. With this configuration, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 guarantees a performance boost of 10 percent when compared to its predecessor. However, details regarding the GPU incorporated into the chip remain unclear.
Complimenting its performance capabilities, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset supports up to 3,200MHz LPDDR5x RAM, UFS 3.1 storage (2-lane), and a FHD+ resolution display at 120fps. In terms of camera capabilities, the chip accommodates up to a 108-megapixel single lens or a 32-megapixel dual-camera setup (16-megapixel + 16-megapixel) with zero shutter lag.

Furthermore, it incorporates a Multi-Camera Temporal Filtering (MCTF) feature for enhanced noise reduction while capturing videos, with support for 1080p video at 60fps and 720p slow motion at 120fps, along with an Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) feature.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 extends support for Quick Charge 4+ technology, with USB-C connectivity that accommodates the USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard. Connectivity options include the Snapdragon X61 5G modem with 4×4 MIMO, Wi-Fi 802.1ac, and Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX for high-quality audio streaming.
Smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset are set to make their appearance in the second half of 2023. Renowned brands, Redmi and Vivo, are expected to be among the pioneers in launching an SD4G2 phone. Intriguingly, the as-yet-unannounced Redmi Note 12R, which features the SD4G2 chip, has been spotted listed in China Telecom's product library, suggesting a debut date of June 30, with potential availability for purchase in China by July.
