Experts from the NCC Group discovered two vulnerabilities in the Galaxy App Store application on November 23 and December 3, 2022. These flaws might make it possible for malicious sources to install apps on a user's device without their knowledge or to send them to harmful websites. The company then rolled up its sleeves to fix this security problem right away.

The problem was found to be caused by an exported activity within the app store that does not properly handle incoming intents. This makes it possible for other apps on the same device to install any app from the Galaxy App Store automatically. However, Samsung resolved the aforementioned issue with a new update for the Galaxy App Store.

Using an "ADB" (Android Debug Bridge) command to install the well-known game "Pokemon Go" via an intent submitted to the app store, analysts at the NCC Group have demonstrated the concept. Certain Samsung devices running Android 12 or later may have a vulnerability that makes it possible for malicious applications to be installed. However, it should be noted that Android 13-based devices are unaffected by this issue.
