Samsung unveiled two additional military-version phones
For some time now, Samsung has focused on the Galaxy S23 series and is currently busy introducing new variants to their existing lineup.
Samsung has introduced two specialized smartphones tailored for military use: the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition. Building on the legacy of the Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition, these new models are designed to endure extreme conditions and assist military personnel in their diverse operations.
The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition meets the MIL-STD-810H standards, showcasing its capability to withstand extreme weather and submersion in up to 5 feet of water for half an hour. In comparison, the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition has achieved an IP68 rating and is enveloped in a robust, military-grade casing that can be conveniently mounted on the chest or forearm.

Both models are equipped with innovative features tailored for military operations. They come with a night vision mode and are designed to work seamlessly even when users are wearing gloves. Enhanced connectivity options include support for external GPS, drone feeds, and laser range finders, elevating mission efficiency. Furthermore, these phones can integrate with tactical radio and mission device protocols, all while maintaining the standard cellular connectivity options, such as LTE, CBRS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.
Prioritizing secure communication, the Stealth Mode in the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition allows for discreet off-grid communication by disabling LTE and e-911. Samsung's renowned Knox security offers hardware-level encryption, while the Dual Data at Rest (DualDAR) enhances data protection. A notable feature is the serverless license activation, enabling flexible device deployment. Powered by Android 13 with One UI 5.1, both smartphones are equipped with the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) to aid situational awareness and the Battlefield Assisted Trauma Distributed Observation Kit (BATDOK) for real-time medical data access. Additionally, both models support Samsung DeX and dual VPN chaining to further bolster security measures.
Although tailored for military applications, the pricing details remain undisclosed as these models won't be available for the general consumer market.
