Samsung may discontinue Galaxy S24 Plus in 2024
Samsung is reported to exclude Galaxy S24 Plus from series next year.
According to reports, Samsung Electronics is looking into its plans for the upcoming flagship smartphones in the Galaxy S24 series. The Elec reports that Samsung is considering excluding the Galaxy S24 Plus from the series.
Samsung might cancel Galaxy S24 Plus next year
As reported, there are two development codes associated with the Galaxy S24 series right now: DM1 and DM3. However, Samsung may have excluded the Galaxy S24 Plus model because there is no known development task for a middle model. It is known that DM2 is signifier of Plus model. Three models were initially planned for the project, but the DM2 development task has been excluded. Therefore, it is possible that next year's Galaxy series would bring only an Ultra and vanilla model.
The reason why Samsung canceled the Plus model must have been due to low sales. According to the source the sales of the Plus model are quite inadequate to compete against iPhone 14 Plus. Report indicate that 14.1 million Galaxy S22 Ultra and 11.9 million Galaxy S22 models were sold, in which figure 5.5 million Galaxy S22 Plus were sold.
As to shipment percentages, the Galaxy S22 Plus accounted for only 17% of Galaxy S22 shipments last year. Meanwhile, it was stated that the Standard and Ultra models accounted for 38% and 45% of 2022 shipments, respectively.
