Samsung is a candidate to produce Qualcomm's new model!
South Korean tech giant Samsung is on the verge of a new deal with one of the chipset sector's biggest names, Qualcomm.
Samsung, primarily known for its consumer electronics such as smartphones and televisions, also stands out in chip manufacturing. Their various departments are specialized in producing displays, batteries, and chips, in which they particularly excel.
Samsung Foundry has taken the lead in chip manufacturing by becoming the first company worldwide to introduce and commercially utilize 3nm chip fabrication technology. Yet, technology constantly evolves, and Samsung has announced plans to soon unveil chips developed using their advanced 1.4nm and 2nm technology. At the Semiconductor Expo 2023 in South Korea, Jeong Ki-tae, the CTO of Samsung Foundry, shared that discussions were ongoing with major chip clients about the potential of the 1.4nm and 2nm processes.

Moreover, Samsung Foundry is on its way to introduce a second-generation 3nm chip fabrication process. This innovative process is anticipated to be instrumental in producing advanced chips, including the Exynos 2500, and potentially, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. These chips might hit the market by late 2024. While Samsung's efforts are notable, they aren't alone in this endeavor. Companies like TSMC are also striving to refine their production lines to manufacture powerful chips. Regardless, Samsung remains relentless in its pursuit, especially given the recent decline in its profit margins by almost 70%.
