Samsung Galaxy S24 series will come with those anticipated features
South Korean tech giant Samsung's upcoming flagship smartphone series, Galaxy S24, will incorporate a feature found in its competitors.
Samsung is preparing to introduce satellite connectivity to its forthcoming Galaxy S24 series. Although the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset present in the Galaxy S23 series did support satellite communication, Samsung had chosen not to implement it. Meanwhile, Apple had already introduced this feature in their iPhone 14 series.
The information suggesting Samsung's move towards satellite communication was gleaned from an interview with Lee Jong-ho, the Minister of Science and ICT in South Korea. He mentioned that in 2024, local smartphone brands are set to debut services facilitating data transmission between 5G phones and satellites. Given that Samsung is a leading mobile brand in the region, it's inferred that he was hinting at Samsung's strategy for their flagship phone in 2024.

Samsung revealed that they initially skipped the satellite connectivity feature because the relevant technologies and ecosystem were not adequately matured. The company wanted to ensure the technology was refined before they incorporated it into their devices. In line with this aim, they've partnered with Iridium Communications, known for their low-earth orbit satellites tailored for emergency communications. At the moment, only Huawei has satellite connectivity in their Android phones. However, Samsung aims to change that soon.
