Red Magic 9 appeared on Geekbench with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
Targeting a specific audience in the smartphone market, Red Magic aims to expand its market share with its new model.
Qualcomm is gearing up for the launch of its new flagship System-on-Chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, in October. Although the official release is around the corner, details about the new chip have been making the rounds. Notably, it's anticipated that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will carry a higher price tag compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The chipset has also made a recent appearance on the benchmarking platform, Geekbench.
A smartphone featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset was identified on Geekbench, going by the model number Nubia NX769J. The device is speculated to be a prototype of either the Nubia Z60 series or the Red Magic 9 series. Its motherboard, intriguingly codenamed "Pineapple," is designed with a 1+5+2 core cluster, an arrangement previously hinted at by industry insider Ice Universe.

Delving deeper into the Geekbench scores, the Nubia NX769J has a base clock speed set at 2.27GHz, but its prime core can reach speeds of up to 3.19GHz. In terms of performance, the device secured 1596 points in the single-core test and 5977 points in the multi-core segment of Geekbench 5. To offer some perspective, the rumored Samsung Galaxy S24+ US model, which was tested on an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC reaching a maximum clock speed of 3.30GHz, logged single-core and multi-core scores of 2223 and 6661 points, respectively.
While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has showcased notable improvements in both single-core and multi-core performance domains, there's also buzz about the GPU integrated into the SoC. Rumors suggest that the GPU might deliver a substantial boost in performance. The tech community is eagerly waiting for GPU benchmarks to paint a clearer picture of what's in store. Until then, all eyes are on Qualcomm for more revelations.
