Realme GT 5 Pro becomes a competitor to OnePlus 12
Realme's new flagship, the GT 5 Pro, is making its mark in the market. Equipped with Sony's LYT-808 camera, this device positions itself as a strong contender against OnePlus 12.
In a significant event marking its 10th anniversary, OnePlus is launching the OnePlus 12 in China today, setting the stage for a major showdown in the smartphone industry. Just two days later, Realme is set to unveil the Realme GT 5 Pro, also in China. Both these smartphones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, positioning them as direct competitors not just in terms of processing power but also in camera capabilities.
A noteworthy feature of both devices is their primary camera – the 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808. This camera, known for its exceptional performance, is also featured in the OnePlus Open and Oppo Find N3 foldable phones. The Sony LYT-808 represents Sony's most advanced camera sensor to date, second only to the 1-inch Sony IMX989 lens or the upcoming 1-inch LYT-900, expected early next year. The LYT-808's design, which combines both hardware and sophisticated algorithms, allows for excellent image restoration in both bright and dark areas, maintaining detail without overexposure.

The Realme GT 5 Pro stands out not only for its primary camera but also as the first Realme smartphone to offer a periscope telephoto camera. This device includes an IMX890 50-megapixel periscope zoom camera, boasting 3x optical zoom and up to 120x digital zoom. Additionally, it is rumored to feature an IMX355 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, though the company has not officially advertised this.
Apart from its impressive camera capabilities, the GT 5 Pro will also be Realme's first to support wireless charging. It features a 5,400mAh battery – the largest in Realme’s flagship range – and introduces a USB 3.2-enabled USB-C port and an AI super assistant. Running on Realme UI 5-based Android 14, the GT 5 Pro is set to receive up to three major Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates, highlighting Realme's commitment to longevity and user experience.
