Despite facing subsidy cuts, China's electric vehicle (EV) market defied all predictions and experienced sustained growth in the first quarter of 2023. As per data collated by Counterpoint’s China Passenger Electric Vehicle Model Sales Tracker, there was a phenomenal 29% year-on-year rise in EV sales during this period. The lion's share of this booming market was captured by battery electric vehicles (BEVs), making up almost 70% of total sales. Simultaneously, plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs) saw an extraordinary 88% year-on-year escalation, underlining their increasing appeal among the Chinese populace.

In a parallel stream of technological development, Motorola continues to extend the boundaries of its G series. Recently, the company launched the Moto G53j smartphone in Japan, following the introduction of the Moto G Stylus in the US last month. Now, whispers of an economical model in the series have begun to circulate. With a recent TDRA certification, the Moto G14 appears to be readying for launch.

Bearing the model number XT2341-4, the Moto G14 received its TDRA certification, confirming the smartphone's designation. As the name suggests, this device is expected to make its debut as a budget model, possibly as the successor to the Moto G13. Specific details regarding the handset are scarce. However, the model number recently appeared on the EEC website, suggesting the device may be nearing its unveiling.

To provide a snapshot of what may be improved upon, the Moto G13 currently retails at a price of ₹9,499 ($115) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model, and ₹9,999 ($120) for the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage version. It offers a 6.5-inch centered punch-hole LCD display with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. Underneath its exterior, it runs on a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset.

The Moto G13 operates on Android 13 and promises an Android 14 update along with three years of security updates. For photo enthusiasts, the device has a triple camera setup, featuring a 50MP primary lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The front features an 8MP sensor. Connectivity options include dual SIM, 4G, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, and GNSS. It is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging support.
