Might Huawei and Honor merge once again?
After facing a US embargo and continuing on its own, is Honor now contemplating reuniting with Huawei?
Back in 2019, Huawei faced a tumultuous situation in the smartphone market due to U.S. sanctions, leading to a significant decline in its global market share. In response to the mounting challenges, Huawei made the difficult decision to sell its sub-brand, Honor, to Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology. This sale aimed to ensure Honor's continued success and viability amidst the challenges faced by Huawei.
The years following the sale have seen both Huawei and Honor operate as distinct entities, charting their respective trajectories in the market. Despite the passage of time, rumors recently emerged suggesting a possible reunification between the two brands. Addressing these speculations, Honor's CEO, Zhao Ming, clarified the brand's stance.
Dismissing the online chatter, Zhao Ming firmly denied any intentions or plans for Honor to merge back with Huawei. Describing such a move as "absolutely impossible," he further positioned Huawei as Honor's "most respected and anticipated competitor." In the world of business, when confronted by a potent competitor, a brand typically has two routes: align with them or challenge them head-on. Zhao Ming asserts that Honor has chosen the latter path, expressing his belief that rejoining Huawei would diminish both brands' unique strengths.
Might Huawei and Honor merge once again?
Highlighting Honor's ambitions, Zhao Ming revealed that the brand's workforce is thrilled about challenging their former parent company. Honor, under Zhao Ming's leadership, remains deeply committed to innovation, aiming to design products superior to their competition in terms of performance, design, and functionality. The CEO also emphasized Honor's dedication to research and development, revealing that over 10% of the company's revenue is reinvested into these endeavors. Such investments have borne fruit, with Honor pioneering technologies like the "Eye Protector" display and "Shark" charging mechanism.
Zhao Ming expressed hope that former Huawei employees would look upon Honor's growth and accomplishments with pride. He reaffirmed Honor's vision, stating that their ultimate goal is to emerge as Huawei's most formidable competitor, reflecting the rich legacy shared between the two entities.
While there's always a possibility for rumors to sprout in the tech world, the notion of a Huawei-Honor reunion, at least for now, remains firmly debunked.
