MediaTek aims to surpass Apple's A17 with the Dimensity 9300
Being a prominent name in the mobile processor realm, MediaTek desires to outshine one of its fiercest competitors with its new chipset.
MediaTek is poised to unveil its Dimensity 9300 chipset, marking a significant shift with its novel all-big-core architecture. Insights from Digital Chat Station indicate an October launch for the chipset. This upcoming chipset is designed with an 8-core CPU configuration, encompassing 4 Cortex-X4 and 4 Cortex-A720 cores, paired with the Immortalis G720 GPU. Such a configuration, which ditches smaller cores, is predicted to enhance performance while diminishing power consumption.
The Cortex-X4 cores of the Dimensity 9300 are projected to bring about a 15% surge in performance combined with a 40% slash in power usage. Concurrently, the Cortex-A720 cores might realize an efficiency improvement of 20%. Notably, the chipset is engineered using TSMC’s N4P process, making it a contender that could potentially overshadow the performance of Apple’s A17 chip. This is attributed to a more than 50% reduction in paper-based power consumption. The shift to exclusively 64-bit processing could yield more fluid smartphone operations while further conserving energy.
MediaTek aims to surpass Apple's A17 with the Dimensity 9300
Demonstrations using SK Hynix’s LPDDR5T mobile DRAM on the Dimensity 9300 platform have clocked speeds at 9.6Gbps. This is a notable 13% acceleration compared to its predecessor and may first be seen in action within Vivo’s X100 series, suggesting a possible performance boost for Android devices.
Furthermore, the Dimensity 9300 is likely to be introduced ahead of Qualcomm’s 2023 Snapdragon Summit. The anticipated Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is awaited at this event. There's buzzing speculation that Vivo's X100 series might be the first to showcase the Dimensity 9300 on a global scale. As the chipset's release edges closer, it promises considerable enhancements in smartphone efficiency and performance. On another note, it's hinted that the forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 might carry a heftier price tag, leading some manufacturers to opt for its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, or other Dimensity platforms. This strategy would ensure cost-effectiveness without compromising efficiency.
