Introducing the Google Pixel 8
Google's eagerly anticipated new smartphone model, Pixel 8, was officially unveiled by Google.
Today, during its annual hardware event, Google introduced the next-generation Pixel 8 series and the Pixel Watch 2. Much of what was unveiled had been the subject of leaks and speculations leading up to the event. The Pixel 8 and its advanced counterpart, the Pixel 8 Pro, are the successors to the previous year's models. While the standard Pixel 8 boasts several incremental updates, the Pro version sees some more pronounced enhancements. Let's dive deeper into the details of the Pixel 8.
The design of the Pixel 8 echoes the aesthetics of its predecessors but presents a more refined look with slightly rounded corners and a more compact frame. It sports a horizontal camera layout on the back, seamlessly integrated within a pill-shaped cutout. The front is adorned with a 6.17-inch OLED display, offering FHD+ resolution. Users can expect a smooth viewing experience, courtesy of the 120Hz refresh rate. The display also shines brightly at 2,000 nits and supports HDR. A center-aligned punch-hole camera subtly punctuates the screen.
Introducing the Google Pixel 8
Photography has always been a strong suit of Google's Pixel devices. The Pixel 8 continues this legacy with a dual rear camera setup. The primary 50MP sensor is a Samsung ISOCELL GN2, accompanied by a 12MP IMX386 ultra-wide-angle lens, which also supports Macro focus. In addition, the camera system integrates an enhanced ToF sensor. For selfie enthusiasts, the device features a consistent 10.5MP front camera. Video recording capabilities extend up to a stunning 8K resolution, complemented by features like staggered HDR, Face Unblur, super res zoom, and an audio magic eraser.
On the performance front, the Pixel 8 is powered by Google's in-house Tensor G3 chipset, built on a 3nm process. Security is bolstered by the Titan M2 chip. Memory configurations include 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and storage options up to 256GB. Keeping the device juiced up is a 4,485mAh battery, compatible with 24W wired and 18W wireless charging. Out of the box, the smartphone runs on Android 14. Impressively, Google has committed to providing a whopping seven years of OS updates and security patches.
In terms of aesthetics, the Google Pixel 8 is available in an array of colors including Hazel, Rose, and Obsidian. For those in the US, the starting price is $699, while in India, the price begins at Rs 75,999 for the 128GB variant.
