Huawei faces another embargo from Portugal
Chinese tech giant Huawei has been suffering for a long time and more is being added. Here are all the details.
Based on a document from Portugal's cyber security council, the most recent report from Reuters suggests that the country is considering excluding Huawei from its 5G network. The report says that the country's government is worried about how safe Huawei's equipment is. The document lays out a strategy to limit the use of high-risk kits, which include companies like Huawei.
Huawei has been suffering
It suggests banning neighborhood transporters from obtaining 5G hardware from providers based beyond the European Association or from nations that are not a piece of the North Atlantic Settlement Association (NATO) or Association for Financial Co-activity and Improvement (OCED). The decision is a significant setback for the Chinese multinational Huawei, which is the world's leading 5G equipment supplier. The Portuguese 5G rollout will be significantly affected if the government bans Huawei. A few years ago, Altice Portugal, the country's largest wireless carrier, agreed to use Huawei equipment for a portion of its 5G rollout.
Huawei has said that it is disheartened by the choice of the Portugal government and added that it will keep on working with the public authority to address its interests. It also says that the company is sure that it can meet the security requirements.
