Expelled from the Android operating system, Huawei is gradually strengthening day by day thanks to HarmonyOS.
Following the US trade ban, Huawei had to innovate and developed its own operating system, HarmonyOS. Today, most Huawei phones in both China and the international market run on this OS, albeit some global users may know it better as EMUI. The company has already launched three major Ha1rmonyOS versions, each introducing several noteworthy features and enhancements. Currently, the company is gearing up to introduce the newest version, HarmonyOS 4.0, this coming August.
Huawei plans to announce HarmonyOS 4.0 on August 4. In a post, the company showcased a snippet of code containing the phrase “What to expect in August” alongside the numeral 4, insinuating that the announcement will occur during their annual HDC event in August. The upcoming software is anticipated to offer a significant design refresh and a host of new features.

Richard Yu, the CEO of consumer BG at Huawei, dropped hints about various features that HarmonyOS 4.0 will introduce. Notably, the software will usher in new audio enhancements for Huawei vehicles, allowing multi-person, multi-device, and multi-screen interaction, as well as the integration of multiple audio zones in car systems. Furthermore, the software will support six-zone sound source positioning.
For smartphones, HarmonyOS 4.0 is set to bring substantial design changes and new features, marking it a significant upgrade over its predecessor. Beta testing is already in progress, with some users sharing their initial impressions on social media. Huawei's latest flagships, the P60, Mate 50, and Mate 40 series, are leading the beta testing phase, though the OS is currently restricted to China. The initial launch is also expected to be confined to China.
Early adopters of the HarmonyOS 4.0 developer beta report a positive user experience. The new version touts increased smoothness, user interface improvements, and innovative features. Particularly, Huawei's version of Dynamic Island has received high praise.
