Honor Magic V2 could challenge Samsung with these features
The leader in the foldable smartphone sector might still be Samsung, but Honor's new model will definitely give the South Korean company a run for its money.
Chinese foldable smartphones, challenging Samsung's dominance, are now making waves in the international market. Although top brands like Xiaomi and Oppo haven't released their book-style phones outside China, several alternatives are available. Notably, Honor has been a consistent contributor to the foldable phone sector, with their latest device being the Honor Magic Vs.
Honor is poised to introduce the Honor Magic V2, anticipated to be the slimmest foldable phone yet. The device is scheduled to be unveiled in China on July 12, with an international release slated for later in 2023.
Honor Magic V2 could challenge Samsung with these features
One of the common barriers for consumers interested in foldable smartphones is the often bulky and heavy build, along with the high price tag. Samsung's early models, like the Z Fold, and the upcoming Z Fold 5, have been notably thicker than conventional phones. However, Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi and Huawei have launched more streamlined models, such as Huawei's Mate X3, which impressively boasts a thickness of only 5.3mm and a weight of just 239 grams.
In response to these trends, Honor has aimed to produce a device that is even slimmer than the current thinnest foldable phone on the market. While no design images have been released by the company yet, a teaser poster reveals some hints about the design of the new device, which has a slightly curved edge similar to the Honor Magic Vs.
By placing the foldable device next to an older model iPhone with a home button and a feature phone, Honor seems to highlight the slim profile of the foldable device. From the teaser, it appears to be quite slender, but the exact dimensions will only be revealed at the launch.
The display specifications are yet to be confirmed, but preliminary specs suggest the Honor V2 will feature a 7.9-inch foldable LTPO OLED display with high-frequency dimming for a better refresh rate. The smartphone will likely employ a gearless hinge, similar to the Magic Vs, resulting in a less noticeable crease on the display.
