Honor introduces earthquake warning feature to its smartphones
Recognized as one of the most critical natural disasters globally, earthquakes might lose their lethality in the face of technological advancements.
Honor has rolled out an earthquake warning feature for its smartphones in China. Once activated, this functionality notifies users of upcoming tremors. For earthquakes with a predicted intensity below 2.0 magnitude, users receive a standard notification. However, for more intense quakes exceeding 2.0 magnitude, a full-screen colored alert pops up. The color codes are designed to swiftly convey the quake's strength: red signifies a powerful tremor of magnitude 5 or more, orange represents a moderate quake between magnitudes 3 and 5, while yellow denotes a milder shake ranging from magnitude 2 to 3.
Beyond just a warning, when the seismic shear waves of an earthquake hit, users are presented with a pop-up containing vital information, such as the nearest emergency shelters, essential contacts, and a quick link to their personal emergency data.

For users looking to activate this feature, it's a straightforward process. Simply navigate to Settings, find the Security section, and under Emergency Warning Notification, switch on the Earthquake Warning. The device will then play a test alarm sound, after which users can confirm their settings. It's crucial to note that for optimal functioning, this service necessitates both an active internet connection and location services. Presently, the earthquake alert service is accessible to all Honor smartphones in mainland China, excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
