While Samsung maintains its leadership in the market, Chinese manufacturers have surged ahead in terms of innovation. Recently, Honor unveiled the impressively thin Magic V2, a book-style folding phone; however, Xiaomi is poised to outshine it with the upcoming Mix Fold 3.

Xiaomi's commitment to slimness is evident in its foldable devices. The Mix Fold 2 from the previous year was a mere 11mm thick and weighed 262 grams. With the Mix Fold 3, Xiaomi is pushing boundaries further, presenting an unfolded thickness of just 4.93mm and a remarkably sleek 9.8mm when folded.

Turning to the display, the Mix Fold 3 is set to feature an 8.02-inch foldable AMOLED panel with a 2K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. The cover display, on the other hand, will span 6.5 inches and offer an FHD+ resolution.

A substantial upgrade in the hardware department comes in the form of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, a notable improvement from the Mix Fold 2's Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The Mix Fold 3 could boast up to 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Reports also suggest an IP rating for the device.

Xiaomi's founder and CEO, Lei Jun, revealed impressive battery performance for the Mix Fold 3. Under continuous display of a white image at 500 nits brightness, the Mix Fold 3 endured for an impressive 8 hours and 20 minutes, 52 percent longer than its predecessor. The exact battery capacity remains undisclosed, but the device could offer a total battery life of 1.34 days, complemented by 67W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The camera system stands out as a highlight, featuring Leica optimizations and marking Xiaomi's inaugural quad-camera setup in a foldable device. Anchored by a 50-megapixel primary sensor, the exact model (Sony IMX989 or IMX800) remains to be confirmed. The setup also encompasses a periscope telephoto camera.

Although numerous details about the Mix Fold 3 have surfaced online, pricing remains a mystery. To provide context, the Mix Fold 2 starts at Yuan 8,999 ($1,335) for 256GB storage, with 512GB and 1TB variants priced at Yuan 9,999 ($1,483) and Yuan 11,999 (~$1,780) respectively.
