Google has announced that its dedicated podcast app, Google Podcasts, will be officially shut down in April 2024. This decision comes after the integration of podcasts into YouTube in 2022, aiming to consolidate Google’s audio offerings. To facilitate the transition for users, Google has introduced a migration tool. This tool simplifies the process of transferring podcast subscriptions from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music. Currently, this feature is only accessible to users in the United States, with plans for a global rollout in the near future.
The new migration tool will be incorporated into the Google Podcasts app and is expected to be accessible via a banner at the top of the screen in the coming weeks. Detailed instructions for the migration process will also be available on Google’s support website. Until March 2024, users in the United States can continue to use the Google Podcasts app for listening to podcasts. However, both the migration and subscription export features will remain available until July 2024, providing ample time for users to adapt.

Subscriptions can be exported as an OPML file from podcasts.google.com/settings until August 2024. Key dates to remember regarding the shutdown of Google Podcasts are as follows: March 2024 marks the last month to listen to podcasts within the app. April 2024 is when the app officially shuts down. The deadline to migrate or export subscriptions is set for July 2024, and the final date to export subscriptions as an OPML file is August 2024. Despite the changes, Google assures a seamless and enjoyable podcast experience for its users, either through YouTube Music or other podcast platforms.
