It's happening sooner than expected. Just a couple of weeks ahead of the Pixel 8's anticipated debut, an early leak of what appears to be the Google Pixel 8a has surfaced on the internet.

Images shared by @yabhishekhd on Twitter/X this morning showcase what is purportedly the Google Pixel 8a, possibly the earliest hands-on glimpse of a Google device we've ever witnessed. The leak reveals a device featuring a pill-shaped cutout housing two cameras, with the entire device sporting a blue hue akin to the Pixel 8 Pro leaks.
Additionally, the images display the phone's updated design, characterized by more rounded corners compared to the existing Pixel 7a, aligning more closely with the design language of the forthcoming Pixel 8 series. While the phone's sides feature a matte finish on the metal frame, the back adopts a glossy finish, reminiscent of the Pixel 7a.
One of the images offers a view of the device's front, featuring a display with notably rounded corners and, by contemporary standards, relatively sizable bezels. However, this aligns with the typical compromises seen in the Pixel A-Series devices.
It's reported that the Pixel 8a will be powered by a Tensor G3 chip, an expectation in line with Google's technological advancements. The device also goes by the codename "Akita," a detail previously mentioned in a leaked roadmap outlining Google's Pixel plans up to 2025.
Given the timing of this leak, some caution is warranted, but there's nothing particularly unusual about it. If following Google's usual schedule, this device would likely make its official debut around Google I/O next year in May. However, with such an early leak, various possibilities remain open. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 series is set to launch on October 4.
