Google Pixel 8 unlocks with other faces too!
The Face ID issue that emerged on Google's popular smartphone Pixel 8 quickly spread by word of mouth.
Recently, the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro were launched, and as has become somewhat customary with new Pixel releases, they encountered a slew of initial problems. One prominent issue was their inability to launch Android Auto. However, a more concerning glitch has surfaced regarding the biometric security feature of the Pixel 8. A Reddit user has reported that the Pixel 8's Face Unlock feature was tricked by their sibling.
For many, biometric security, starting from fingerprint scanners and evolving to facial recognition, has become a staple in ensuring device safety. This shift towards facial recognition was driven by its promise of superior security levels.
Google Pixel 8 unlocks with other faces too!
While I've had a seamless experience using the technology on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, it seems the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro have some kinks to iron out. The aforementioned Reddit user's brother was reportedly able to unlock the Pixel 8 Pro using the Face Unlock feature, despite significant facial differences between the siblings.
This anecdote becomes more alarming when one recalls that Google has touted the Pixel 8's Face Unlock to be among the most secure, adhering to the highest Android biometric class standard, Class 3. This implies a slim chance for unauthorized access. While this user's experience suggests a potential flaw or a system bug that could be exploited by lookalikes, Google has yet to respond to these claims. The tech giant hasn't confirmed awareness of the issue, let alone indicated any ongoing remedies.
