Google Pixel 8 series Benchmark results disappointed many
Recently introduced by the American tech giant Google, the performance of the Google Pixel 8 series has left many with doubts.
The tech world has been buzzing with the release of Google's Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Enthusiasts were particularly keen to see how the new Tensor G3 SoC would perform, given the high expectations. Regrettably, early benchmark tests, shared by some of the first users, suggest that the chip's performance might not live up to the anticipation.
The Tensor G3, crafted using Samsung’s 4LPP (4 nm, Low Power Plus) technology, possesses a 9-core CPU configuration. This includes 1x Cortex-X3 (3.00 GHz), 4x Cortex-A715 (2.45 GHz), and 4x Cortex-A510 (2.15 GHz). In contrast, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, a prime competitor, is built on an octa-core structure with varying configurations.
However, despite the Tensor G3's additional core, its performance seems somewhat underwhelming. Benchmark scores on Geekbench 6 revealed the Tensor G3 scoring 1,760 in single-core tests and 4,442 in multi-core tests. These scores lag behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which averages 1,976 and 5,149 in the same tests.

Performance evaluations extended beyond just CPU tests. The 3D Mark Wild Life Stress test results for the Pixel 8 showed scores of 8,216 (best loop) and 4,316 (lowest loop) with a stability of 52.5%. The Pixel 8 Pro fared slightly better in terms of stability, recording 58.7%. However, when compared to devices like the iPhone 15 Pro Max with its A17 Pro chip and the Galaxy S23 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, both of which recorded stabilities of 78.9% and 69% respectively, the Pixel 8 series seems to lag.
The subpar performance of the Tensor G3 might have its roots in Samsung’s fabrication process. There have been instances in the past where Samsung's Exynos chips have underperformed due to their fabrication technology. It appears that the Tensor G3 is running into similar challenges.
Despite these drawbacks, the Pixel 8's Tensor G3 chip still promises competent everyday performance. However, for those seeking cutting-edge performance comparable to the top players in the market, it might fall a tad short.
