Google Pixel 8 Pro seems more durable than expected
The Google Pixel 8 Pro has proven to be more durable than expected, impressively surviving drop and scratch tests, according to a review by PBKreviews.
The durability of the Pixel 8 Pro, Google's latest flagship smartphone, has been put to the test in a scratch and drop test conducted by PBKreviews.
Google Pixel 8 Pro seems more durable than expected
In the test, the YouTuber started by dropping the Pixel 8 Pro from waist height with the screen facing the concrete. Despite the impact, the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the Pixel 8 Pro showed no visible damage.
Next, the YouTuber dropped the phone from head height, and although the impact sounded intense, there were no major scratches on the front and back of the handset. The same drop tests were repeated with the phone's back facing the concrete, and no significant scratches were observed.
To test the phone's scratch resistance, PBKreviews placed the Pixel 8 Pro inside a bag of sand and gravel and rubbed it against these abrasive materials. Surprisingly, the Google flagship remained nearly scratch-free.
In comparison, the YouTuber noted that the Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max sustained more damage than the tested Pixel 8 Pro in the same drop and scratch tests.
The most impressive aspect of the test was the Pixel 8 Pro's ability to withstand drops on the screen side, both from waist and head height, without cracking. This durability is uncommon in drop tests on concrete surfaces, as phones typically suffer screen cracks when dropped from waist height. Even those that survive such drops often crack when dropped from head height, except for phones with specialized glass like the Mate 60 Pro.
In summary, the YouTuber concluded that the tested Pixel 8 Pro demonstrated better durability than the iPhone 15 Pro Max but not quite as good as the 14 Pro Max.
