Google Pixel 8 camera features surfaced online. As suggested, we might see a new primary camera.
The Pixel phones have always had a strong photography feature. The Google Pixel 7 series offered a number of incredible camera features, are no exception to Google's pioneering position in the field of machine learning augmented cameras, which perform the majority of the heavy lifting during post processing.
The Google Pixel 8 that will be released next year may include staggered HDR support for the cameras, which would result in a new primary camera.
Google does not seem to slow down anytime soon: a new primary camera for Google Pixel 8 might be coming
Kuba Wojciechowski, a famous developer and tipster, has now discovered references to the 2023 Pixel smartphones which signifies staggered HDR support. Wojciechowski looked into the Google Camera Go app and found mentions of the feature for devices manufactured in 2023.
The leak also correctly points out that the main Samsung Isocell GN1 sensor used in the Pixel 6 and 7 series does not support staggered HDR. However, the fact that the Samsung Isocell GN2 has this staggered HDR capability suggests that the Pixel 8 may utilize this GN2 sensor.
At the time of the GN2's launch, Samsung stated that staggered HDR reduced energy consumption by up to 24% and provided richer detail and more vibrant colors than the GN1's real-time HDR mode. Therefore, the upcoming Google Pixel 8 smartphones would feature intense upgrades over previous series.
