EU has some plans in mind regarding smartphone batteries. In old times smartphones used to come with batteries that could be removed and replaced. This feature is currently only available on a small number of models, but the EU may soon change this.
EU has a new demand for smartphone batteries
European Union has been quite active with the demans and changes regarding the mobile phone market. For instanse Apple was recently compelled by the European Union to use the USB Type C port to charge its future iPhone models in accordance with the universal standard for smartphones. The Cupertino-based giant has until December 28, 2024 to comply with this order, which was approved. Now reports claim that EU has some other plans in mind as well.
In the past, people could simply go to a store or order a new battery online to replace the one in their smartphones that was getting old or dying. Some OEMs even offered batteries with a larger capacity that could be purchased separately. EU wants this order back now and has demanded new regulations for it.
