Apple's emergency feature continues to save more lives
The emergency alert feature developed by the American tech giant Apple saves more and more lives every day.
In a harrowing incident amid the devastating Maui wildfires, a family's timely rescue was attributed to Apple iPhone's Emergency SOS via Satellite function. Wildfires had engulfed several areas of Maui, Hawaii, leaving entire communities in ashes. Trapped in their car and surrounded by these raging fires, a family of five found themselves in dire need of assistance. With conventional network services failing them, the family's sole hope was the iPhone's emergency feature.
This life-saving account was shared by Michael J. Miraflor. In his account, he mentioned that the entire rescue operation, from the call for help to the family's safe extraction, took approximately 30-40 minutes. Additionally, the iPhone's Emergency SOS via Satellite feature offers users the ability to capture and share their interaction with emergency personnel, a capability the family took advantage of.
Apple's emergency feature continues to save more lives
Apple's iPhone 14 series introduced the world to the Emergency SOS via Satellite feature. For the first two years post-activation, users can access this service free of charge. Once activated, the user is prompted to provide details regarding their emergency as the device establishes a satellite connection. Upon successful connection, distress signals are relayed to centers which in turn notify the relevant emergency service providers.
Presently, this feature is accessible in countries like the US, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg, the UK, and Portugal. However, iPhones procured from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau don't support this service, even if the user is in a country where the feature is available.
Apple's dedication to user safety is evident with such additions to its technological suite. With the expectation that the Emergency SOS via Satellite service will play a crucial role during natural disasters and emergencies, many await further innovations, especially with the anticipated iPhone 15 series launch.
