Apple's eagerly awaited virtual reality headset has already begun to be discussed
Developed by the American tech giant Apple, and attracting the keen interest of almost everyone in the industry, Apple's new device seems poised to be one of the significant turning points for the company.
The anticipation is building for Apple's 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), scheduled for June 5th, as the company is expected to unveil its first-ever AR/VR headset. Apple has been dropping hints about a virtual universe resembling the metaverse, incorporating digital elements into reality. While industry experts are optimistic about the potential of AR/VR technology, the immediate benefits for Apple may not be as significant as predicted.
Apple's maiden foray into the Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR) space is expected to happen at the 2023 WWDC, and the buzz around its potential has been growing among analysts. The early predictions paint an impressive picture, with analyst Gene Munster suggesting that the AR headset could account for about 10% of Apple's overall business by the end of the decade. However, such a milestone might take longer than anticipated to achieve.
Munster's optimism is anchored in the growing consumer demand for immersive tech experiences. He stated, "The consumer tech industry is moving towards more immersive experiences, which should lead to a burgeoning headset market." He went on to predict that by 2030, the wearable/glasses segment might represent about 10% of Apple's sales, equivalent to the size of Apple's Mac and iPad businesses today.
Yet, Munster concedes that achieving such a degree of success with the AR headset will take time. He estimates that the headset's first iteration will only bring in around $3 billion in revenue in its first year. Despite this relatively slow start, he anticipates a rapid expansion of the AR headset market in subsequent years, positioning Apple favorably to leverage this growth.
