Apple still relies on China, albeit indirectly!
The American tech giant, Apple, introduced its new iPhone series just a few hours ago. Yet, the initial data indicates that China will remain Apple's main base this year.
Apple's much-awaited iPhone 15 series has been introduced, and to the delight of many, previous speculations about price hikes turned out to be just that - speculations. This favorable turn of events, combined with the phone's new features, only adds to the growing expectations. In anticipation of the demand, Foxconn, known for operating the most massive iPhone factory, has initiated large-scale hiring operations at its Zhengzhou plant in China.
Spanning an area of 5.6 square kilometers, Foxconn's Zhengzhou plant, often referred to as "iPhone City," can employ around 200,000 workers when operating at peak capacity. This facility is responsible for assembling a significant portion of iPhones distributed globally. To cater to the forthcoming iPhone 15 series demand, Foxconn is offering enticing signing bonuses, going up to 8,000 yuan, to attract new recruits.

These fresh hiring efforts can be seen as Foxconn's attempt to overcome the challenges they faced the previous year. Strict Covid-19 measures in China led to labor shortages and subsequent disruptions in production. The situation was so severe that the company had to shut down its Zhengzhou facility temporarily, causing delays in the iPhone 14's release. Foxconn aims to prevent such setbacks this year, especially with the iPhone 15's release on the horizon.
Moreover, competition in the smartphone manufacturing domain is heating up. Brands like Huawei are exploring the idea of shifting their production bases out of China. By bolstering its workforce, Foxconn is positioning itself to meet the relentless demand for the iPhone 15 series and stay ahead of its competitors.
