Piyush Goyal, India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, claims that Apple intends to make up 25% of its iPhones worldwide in India. Goyal stated that Apple currently produces 5-7% of its iPhones in the nation. The tech giant put its eyes on İndian market.

Goyal described the action as "another success story" for the economy of the nation. Apple has been making iPhones in India, mostly older models. At its factory in Sriperumbudur, on the outskirts of Chennai, the Taiwanese company Foxconn is making the smartphones. Since Apple is one of the largest technology conglomerates in the world, this would be good news for India's economy and would strengthen India's position as a high-skill tech market.

Apple is looking into ways to move some of its manufacturing away from China, where the majority of iPhones are currently manufactured, as part of its efforts to diversify production. This move comes after a Covid outbreak and worker protests at the world's largest iPhone factory in Zhengzhou, which is run by Foxconn and caused production disruptions, exposed weaknesses in China last year.
