Another significant feature of the Google Pixel 8 series has been discovered
Fresh information continues to emerge about Google's recently introduced flagship series, Pixel 8.
Despite Google's recent statements dismissing the support for a DisplayPort Connection on the new Pixel 8 Series, Mishaal Rahman demonstrated its functionality on the device. After a collaboration with another tester, Mishaal determined that the DP Alt Mode is operational on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. However, it seems Google has turned off this feature through a firmware update.
By leveraging a USB Type-C connection, Mishaal managed to mirror the smartphone’s display. For users wishing to replicate this, they'll need to root their Pixel 8 and make specific configuration modifications. The process necessitates the use of a USB Type-C cable that's capable of transmitting video output to other display devices. Another user has since followed Mishaal's methodology and mirrored their device, further cementing the presence of the DisplayPort capability.

The reasoning behind Google's choice to disable this potentially beneficial feature remains unclear. It's possible that this feature is still in its infancy, and Google is exploring more use cases to optimize its functionality. There's speculation that Google may reintroduce the DisplayPort feature in an upcoming QPR1 or QPR2 update. Users keen on accessing it sooner might consider rooting their devices.
Furthermore, the DisplayPort isn't the only feature that Google has removed from the Pixel 8. The tech giant also decided to exclude the 8K video recording functionality and the capability to record videos at 720p@480fps slow-motion. There's hope among enthusiasts that these features will make a return in a forthcoming Quarterly Platform Release (QPR).
