All iPhone 16 series models will have this feature in common
Even though it's barely a month since the iPhone 15 unveiling, significant details about the iPhone 16 series are already surfacing.
Apple is reportedly shifting its strategy for the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup. According to supply chain analyst Jeff Pu, the tech giant may be setting aside its prior approach of integrating older chipsets in its base models. Instead, Apple is anticipated to equip all its iPhone 16 models with the A18-branded chips.
For context, the current iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus run on the A16 Bionic chip, which also powered the iPhone 14 Pro models from the previous year. The more recent iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, however, have the advanced A17 Pro chip, a product of TSMC’s pioneering 3nm node technology.
Pu speculates that Apple is likely to employ the A18 chip across all iPhone 16 models. This chip is expected to be crafted using TSMC's evolved second-generation 3nm chip fabrication, known as N3E. This method is not only cost-effective but also promises better results than its predecessor, the N3B process, which was harnessed for the A17 Pro chip present in the iPhone 15 Pro editions.

Expanding on his forecasts, Pu anticipates that the regular iPhone 16 models will be powered by the A18 chip. In contrast, the Pro variants might feature the A18 Pro chip. Notably, all these chips would be products of the N3E fabrication method from TSMC.
While these projections sound promising, it's crucial to treat them with a grain of caution. The iPhone 16 series remains a considerable time away from its official launch, and the actual naming conventions Apple opts for remain uncertain. Past trends saw Apple toggling between chip names, so whether they'll proceed with A18 and A18 Pro or revert to A17 and A18 Pro is yet to be seen.
Though there's ambiguity regarding the chipset naming, Jeff Pu's credibility shouldn't be underplayed. He had previously accurately forecasted that the iPhone 15 Pro models would be endowed with an enhanced 8GB RAM, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max would be priced higher than its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
