Based on speculations surrounding Apple's forthcoming iPhone 15 series, there are hints of significant enhancements since the launch of the iPhone 11. Apple is expected to unveil these smartphones in an event on September 12, together with other products. Among the anticipated updates, the iPhone 15 range will adopt the USB-C standard, aligning with the European Union's latest regulations. However, recent discoveries indicate even more intriguing details about this new port.

From the inception of the iPhone, Apple has consistently used its proprietary lightning port. This connection uniquely remained on the iPhone, while Apple's Macs and iPads transitioned to USB-C ports in 2015 and 2019, respectively. The iPhone's move towards USB-C is a pivotal change, welcomed by many.

Recently, there were observations of the iPhone 15's USB-C harboring a 3LD3 chip, hinting at potential limitations. Delving further into this, ChargerLAB has unveiled pictures depicting the connectivity port for the iPhone 15. These images prominently display the PCB accommodating the iPhone's USB-C port. According to ChargerLAB, these images represent the engineering units for the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, and 15 Pro models. Notably, a Retimer chip is present adjacent to the USB-C port. This chip is essential for refining signal quality and is frequently seen in devices compatible with Thunderbolt to sustain high input-output ratios. Its

presence on the iPhone 15 series almost assures the support for Thunderbolt across all models, not just the Pro variants.

It's essential to note that Thunderbolt, co-developed by Apple and Intel, is a superior technology to USB-C in terms of speed and bandwidth. Its inclusion provides immense benefits, especially for users seeking swift data transfers between devices. Additionally, the incorporation of Thunderbolt could hint at enhanced charging speeds for the iPhone 15.
