According to researches, a Mediterranean diet is very important in fighting dementia.
Mediterranean diet is basically A diet rich in vegetables, nuts, whole grains, and fish. Seafood, fruit, vegetables, nuts and olive oil occupy a large place in the Mediterranean diet. These foods can help elderly people's mental health and prevent dementia early.
The new study, published in BMC Medicine, took previous findings a step further. Examining the health data of more than 60,000 older adults, the researchers followed them for 9 years. Participants filled out questionnaires at regular intervals, participated in oral interviews and passed certain analyzes.
Among those whose diets were furthest from the Mediterranean diet, about 17 out of every 1,000 people were diagnosed with dementia in those 9 years. Among those whose food choices are most similar to the Mediterranean diet, only 12 out of 1,000 people have dementia.
