Antibiotics substitute has been found: Honey creates wonders

According to the medical journal The Lancet, more than 1.2 million people worldwide died in 2019 from antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. The growing number creates a problem for all humankind. The experts are worried if we would go back to the "pre-antibiotic era". Yet there is some hope. Experts claim honey can make wonders.

Professor Les Baillie from Cardiff University School of Pharmacy said: We're seeing bacteria that have evolved, resistant to nearly all antibiotics, and we're approaching a stage where there's nothing left.

Honey can do wonders instead of antibiotics

Antibiotic-containing honey has been used for centuries as a natural remedy to fight certain diseases and treat wounds. According to Cardiff University, honey has "healing properties due to a number of factors, including low pH, hydrogen peroxide, peptides from bees, and high sugar content."

As well as bacteries viruses are also problem. Healing type of honey is produced by bees feeding on the Manuka bush (Leptospermum scoparium), a plant that produces a compound with powerful antibacterial properties. According to Professor Baillie, the scientists also closely analyzed the compounds of the dandelion, as it has the potential to "kill bacteria and viruses" in their research.
