There's a buzz in the tech world surrounding Qualcomm's latest project, which several sources report is an enhanced version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Referred to in discussions as the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2, both its prospective launch timeframe and key characteristics have been divulged by tipsters WHY LAB and Digital Chat Station respectively, on the social media platform Weibo.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets were prevalent in flagship phones released by major Chinese smartphone brands towards the end of 2022. Moreover, Samsung's Galaxy S23 series, launched in early 2023, introduced a variant of the chip dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, customized specifically for Samsung devices.

In terms of operation, while the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset functions at 3.2GHz, the custom Samsung version reaches 3.36GHz. Digital Chat Station suggests that this customized variant forms the basis for Qualcomm's imminent, overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

The tech community has tentatively adopted the moniker Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2 for this anticipated chipset. However, the tipster implies that Qualcomm may opt for a different official name at launch. As per the information, the chipset will employ TSMC's 4nm manufacturing process.

Despite promises of high performance, Digital Chat Station indicates that few smartphones will feature the new chipset, primarily due to its high cost. In a separate revelation, WHY LAB states that the forthcoming chipset, operating at 3.36GHz, is set to be unveiled in the following week.

Recently, there has been speculation that the Red Magic 8S Pro, slated for a launch in early July, could be the inaugural phone to incorporate this new chipset. Other upcoming releases, such as the iQOO 11S and the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro, are also expected to utilize the chipset.
