Overclocked Nvidia RTX 4090 mobile GPU outperforms desktop RTX 3090 Ti
Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4090 mobile GPU, when tuned, outperforms the desktop RTX 3090 Ti card in the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark.
A Reddit user with the handle u/Kelzs has upgraded their Razer Blade 18, which comes with Nvidia's high-end mobile GPU, the GeForce RTX 4090. This is currently the fastest graphics chip available for laptops, but it is also quite expensive. The Razer Blade 18 is considered to be a top-of-the-line desktop replacement and is priced starting at $4,500 in the United States.
Nvidia RTX 4090 mobile GPU overtakes the RTX 3090 Ti desktop GPU
Despite its status as a laptop GPU, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 is an incredibly powerful gaming offer. When compared in the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark (via NotebookCheck, spotted by Wccftech), the tuned GeForce RTX 4090 outperforms the Nvidia flagship and fastest gaming graphics card from just a year ago, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.
According to the test results, the RTX 4090 mobile GPU has achieved a total graphics score of 22,339. For comparison, the RTX 3090 Ti desktop GPU achieved a graphics score of 21,015 in the Time Spy test noted by Wccftech.
What's even more impressive is that the RTX 4090 Laptop GPU has a TGP peak of only 175W, while the RTX 3090 Ti can consume between 450-500W in the same benchmark test.
Kelzs utilized MSI Afterburner to overclock the GPU to +250 MHz while leaving the memory settings at default. While the CPU was experiencing thermal throttling, the GPU cooling was efficient enough to achieve a higher score.
This underscores the high efficiency of Nvidia's RTX 40 GPUs for laptops and their continued dominance in the mobile GPU market segment in terms of performance.
