Apple is now focusing on a more affordable AR/VR glasses
After introducing its Vision Pro model and becoming the center of attention, Apple is now exploring a more cost-effective option.
Apple is exploring a more budget-friendly option for its anticipated Vision Pro mixed reality headset, as highlighted by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This alternative headset is projected to be priced between $1,500 and $2,500, a considerable reduction from the Vision Pro's hefty $3,500 estimated price.
In their pursuit to achieve a more appealing price point, Apple might introduce several hardware compromises. One prominent alteration could be the omission of the EyeSight feature, which lets observers view the user's eyes via an external display. Removing EyeSight is considered a strategic move since it doesn't enhance the user experience.
Further details from Gurman's earlier findings hint that Apple might also opt for a less expensive iPhone chip, instead of the Mac-grade silicon chip initially planned for the Vision Pro. Additionally, there might be a reduction in the primary screen resolution and a decreased number of sensors.
Apple is now focusing on a more affordable AR/VR glasses
The Vision Pro, with its high-end price tag of $3,500, is expected to be launched in the US in 2024. This would position it among the priciest consumer VR products available. Given this, Apple's contemplation of a cost-effective counterpart seems like a logical step to cater to a broader consumer base.
However, Apple's endeavors in the VR realm won't be unchallenged. Meta, with its dominant presence through the Oculus range, is a formidable contender in the consumer VR market. Notably, even Meta's premium offering, the Meta Quest Pro, is priced at a mere $999, drastically undercutting Apple's proposed headset.
Only time will reveal the market's reception of Apple's Vision Pro. Nonetheless, Apple remains optimistic, banking on its high-end specifications and seamless integration with its ecosystem to lure potential buyers.
