The ongoing advancements in technology never cease to amaze us, rendering the impossible as possible. Take GPS devices, for example. They used to be quite large and expensive, but technological innovations like Apple's AirTag have significantly reduced their size and cost. This has made it much easier for people to protect and track their precious belongings. This is resulting in fascinating stories almost every week. The most recent one hails from South Carolina, where an Apple AirTag led to the arrest of a thief who had been committing multiple burglaries.

The Apple AirTag has undoubtedly become one of the most practical products introduced by the tech giant. This small but potent device can be attached to any of your valuable items, such as your keychain, wallet, motorcycle, or even your pet's collar, enabling instant location tracking. This tool has proved to be an effective deterrent for thieves.

Take this recent incident, where a man was able to reclaim $7,000 worth of stolen items from his hotel room thanks to an AirTag. And in yet another instance, a thief was apprehended by the police, thanks to the same device.

According to the police, a man from South Carolina allegedly stole a dummy safe from the Sneaky Beagle restaurant in July. This safe was equipped with an Apple AirTag, which allowed the police to trace the man's movements. These trails subsequently led the police to a series of other thefts in the vicinity.

The accused, known as Smith, is suspected of stealing cash, money bags, and other items from four different restaurants. While the total value of the stolen goods is still being estimated, it is projected to be in the range of $15,000 to $20,000. Smith was arrested last Friday and is currently held in Horry County Jail, with his court date scheduled for August 1.

However, it's essential to note that while AirTag technology has been instrumental in solving theft cases, it is not without its drawbacks. For instance, a situation that transpired in early July revealed an AirTag being misused by a stalker to track US actress Hannah Rose May. The only thing that thwarted further escalation was a "Find My" notification on her iPhone. Therefore, the AirTag, with its share of benefits and drawbacks, is considered one of the most debatable technologies of recent years.
