AMD, a leading name in the semiconductor industry, has recently inaugurated its largest global design center, the Technostar research and development campus, in Bengaluru, India. This significant move is part of AMD's ambitious $400 million investment in India over the next five years, which was announced at Semicon 2023. The establishment of the Technostar campus is a strategic step in enhancing AMD's global footprint and aligns with India’s focus on developing a robust semiconductor ecosystem.
Spanning an impressive 500,000 square feet, the Technostar campus is designed to be a hub of innovation and technology. It will accommodate approximately 3,000 engineers who will focus on developing advanced CPUs, GPUs, adaptive SoCs, and FPGAs. These technologies are essential for personal computers and data centers, reflecting AMD's commitment to driving progress in the semiconductor sector.
The facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art research and development lab, a dedicated visitor demo center, and collaborative spaces designed to foster an environment conducive to creativity and teamwork. This setup is indicative of AMD's approach to innovation, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative and conducive work environment.

With about a quarter of AMD's global workforce already based in India, the new design center is expected to play a crucial role in the company's ongoing efforts to advance semiconductor technologies. This initiative further strengthens India's position as a significant player in the global technology landscape.
The inauguration of the R&D center was a high-profile event, graced by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Telecommunications, Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. High-level officials from AMD, including Mark Papermaster, Chief Technology Officer, and David Wang, Senior Vice President of Radeon Technologies Group, were also present. The leadership of the site will be under the guidance of Deepak Agarwal.
Both Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Mark Papermaster emphasized the importance of AMD's investment in India. They highlighted the potential impact on India's semiconductor ecosystem and expressed confidence in the country's engineering talent.
