The Elder Scrolls fans will be devastated by this news!

Xbox's Phil Spencer recently unveiled that fans might have to wait for over five years to lay their hands on the much-anticipated sequel to Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls 6. Spencer remained cautiously noncommittal on the platforms the game would be available on, citing the distant timeline as the reason for the uncertainty.

Spencer shed light on the future of The Elder Scrolls 6 during the ongoing Microsoft FTC trial. While his reluctance to name platforms might hint at the potential for console exclusivity, it could also suggest that the game might not be available on the current generation of consoles at all.

During the trial, there was speculation regarding the exclusivity of The Elder Scrolls 6. Although Spencer had previously mentioned in his deposition that The Elder Scrolls 6 might bypass PlayStation, he recently denied any recollection of making such a statement.

Looking back at his comments from November 2021, Spencer subtly suggested that Elder Scrolls 6 might be an Xbox exclusive, without explicitly stating it. He emphasized that his intentions were not to penalize any platform, but to ensure that Xbox offered the complete package of what they had to gamers. This applied not only to Elder Scrolls 6 but to all their franchises.

In his recent testimony, Spencer reiterated the nebulous status of The Elder Scrolls 6, both in terms of its release window and the platforms it will be available on. Given that the same team working on Starfield, due for release in September, is also responsible for The Elder Scrolls 6, the game's launch is expected to be at least five years away.

The ambiguous launch date of The Elder Scrolls 6 is not surprising considering Bethesda Game Studios' current focus on the upcoming launch of Starfield on Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC this September. The Elder Scrolls 6 is Bethesda's next major project following Starfield. As per Bethesda's Pete Hines in 2020, fans should not anticipate any details on The Elder Scrolls 6 for several years. By 2021, the game was still in the design phase.

Spencer's statements suggest that fans can expect the launch of The Elder Scrolls 6 no earlier than 2028, coinciding with the anticipated launch of the next generation of consoles by Microsoft.
