Lenovo Legion Go boldly challenges the Steam Deck
With its features and price, Lenovo Legion Go brings a fresh breath to the gaming console world and stands as a formidable contender against its biggest competitor, the Steam Deck.
Traditionally, the term "gaming console" evoked images of setups like the PlayStation and Xbox, which demanded a connection to a television or monitor. Handheld devices, due to their perceived technical constraints, were often relegated to the background. This perception was upended in 2017 with Nintendo's introduction of the Switch, which paved the way for handheld consoles to seize a larger share of the limelight.
Observing Nintendo's lucrative endeavor, various corporations decided to join the handheld gaming bandwagon, Lenovo being one of them. The tech giant is reportedly in the advanced stages of crafting a console powered by Windows 11. Recent information leaks have illuminated the specifications of this new device, baptized the Lenovo Legion Go.
Lenovo Legion Go boldly challenges the Steam Deck
The Legion Go is slated to feature an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, a chip tailored for high-octane gaming and sophisticated tasks. Based on the Zen 3+ architecture, this processor boasts eight cores and 16 threads. When juxtaposed with devices such as the Steam Deck, which utilizes a custom AMD APU, the Legion Go promises superior performance. It will also be equipped with a sizable 16GB RAM, ensuring smooth gameplay and seamless multitasking. A 512GB Samsung storage drive will offer ample room for a diverse range of media. Gaming experiences are set to be immersive, thanks to the device's 8-inch high-resolution display, a tad bigger than the Steam Deck's screen. Preliminary benchmarks have also indicated that the console will operate on the latest iteration of Windows 11, which brings several enhancements tailored for gaming.
Despite the anticipation, Lenovo has remained tight-lipped regarding the Legion Go's official launch date. However, given the competitive landscape, it's anticipated that the device will be introduced at an appealing price point, positioning itself as a formidable player in the Windows 11 handheld gaming sphere.
