In a tweet regarding recruitment, Guerrilla made the announcement. The studio has established a separate team to develop an "online project set in Horizon's universe," in addition to working on additional "epic solo adventures for Aloy," the protagonist of the first two games. It went on to say that the latter will have brand-new characters, a "unique stylized look," and the ability to play with friends, all of which point to a focus on cooperative play.
Since last year, there have been rumors that Guerrilla was working on a multiplayer Horizon game. The studio has now confirmed that this is the case. Live service games are receiving more attention from Sony. By March 2026, it intends to release ten of them, including a multiplayer version of The Last of Us. However, at this time, it is unclear how the online game Horizon fits into that strategy.
