Apex Legends Mobile shuts down after short-lived run
In a blog post published EA stated the Apex Legends Mobile will shut down on May 1, 2023.
EA and Respawn, the publisher and developer of Apex Legends, have announced that the mobile version of the game will be discontinued soon, after just one year since its release. The company cited that the game failed to meet the standards for quality, quantity, and pace.
The decision to discontinue the mobile version is part of a larger trend among tech companies to shut down underperforming divisions in an effort to reduce losses and expenses. All real money in-app purchases will be disabled and the game will be removed from online stores. The PC version of Apex Legends will continue to be available for download on platforms like Steam, while the console version will still be accessible.
Apex Legends Mobile players will not get a refund
EA stated in a blog post that players can still use their virtual currency in the game to buy in-game items, but no refunds will be given. On May 1, 2023, all operations related to the mobile version of the game will be terminated in all regions, making it unplayable. To recall, the game was first announced in May 2022.
The blog post also mentioned that players will not receive a refund for their remaining virtual money or Syndicate Gold, and for other refund inquiries, players must reach out to the third-party platform (such as Google Play or Apple App Store).
No Battlefield Mobile game either
Additionally, EA has stated that it will no longer be developing the game Battlefield Mobile, which has been in development for the past two years. The company expressed an interest in altering existing battlefield games to reorient its franchise vision.
