The report further elaborates that Xiaomi is actively recruiting engineers in China for the development of extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) range extenders. The entry-level model of Xiaomi's upcoming EV is expected to feature a 400V voltage platform and utilize the BYD Blade Battery, while the high-end variant will adopt an 800V voltage platform and employ the CATL Qilin Battery with a substantial battery pack capacity of 101kWh.
Additionally, the extended-range version is anticipated to incorporate a 1.5L or 1.5T range extender along with a sizable battery. For those unfamiliar with the concept, an EV range extender is a gasoline engine that extends the range of a battery electric vehicle by acting as an electric generator, charging the vehicle's battery while in use. This strategic choice could enable Xiaomi's EV to offer an extended range, appealing to a broader spectrum of potential buyers.
Design-wise, Xiaomi's first car is expected to feature a coupe design tailored to resonate with the younger generation. The design concept involves a low and sleek profile, characterized by an elongated front end and a fastback rear end, imparting an overall sporty aesthetic.
